Project Sleep + Giveaway! | Are You Getting Enough?

Summer's coming fast, and the days of fun and sun are just around the corner! Enough with the rain and dark days and all the other trappings of the pre-summer season. And along with the bright days come quiet, peaceful nights with caressing cool breezes to relax to after long, fun days. And catching up on sleep is a blissful reprieve from the usual hustle and bustle. I love a quiet night by the lake; a long, cool evening at camp - I really like to find a quiet little place and bunk down. I think we all don't sleep enough. I know for a fact I don't get enough myself. It seems that everything else takes priority, and when it comes to getting something done, or getting enough sleep, sleep loses out.

We all don't sleep enough - over 50 per cent of Canadians say so (according to the Canadian Sleep Review 2016).  So this summer might be a good time dedicated to catching up a bit on your lack of sleep. Maybe you'll set a new trend for yourselves and you'll make it more of a priority to build more sleep into your everyday lives. Here's wishing all of you a more restful life.

Dairy Farmers of Canada brought a panel of leading sleep experts together to address this important public health issue. They have reviewed research including a national survey, and are providing insights, perspective and advice to Canadians in the form of a discussion paper. Through their Project Sleep initiative, they are calling on Canadians to make sleep a priority.

• The experts’ best advice to those seeking a better night’s sleep is to first make sleep a priority. Getting enough sleep is essential to everyday well-being. Look after yourself first.

• Secondly, get to know your chronotype (an individual’s propensity to sleep at a particular time during a 24-hour period) – for example, are you a morning person or an evening person?

• Establish a sleep routine that includes both a regular bedtime and rise time, even on the weekends.

• Don’t put too much pressure on yourself regarding sleep. Stressing out or getting fixated on sleep only makes sleep go away.

• Reach out and seek help if needed. When lack of sleep is causing distress, seek help from your family doctor.

I've checked the @100CanadianMilk Twitter account but don't see a post about who won the contest. Do you know if they've contacted the winner?

Hi Beth,

I was told yesterday they would let me know, so I don't think it's been published yet. Stay tuned!
