I love this collection of brides wearing the same wedding dress starting in 1928 through to 1978 that I found on a flickr set a while back called Nantucket Brides and then happened upon it again this week. A fun post for our Saturday's Wedding column?  According to one of the commenters (a relative) the dress was passed down through the family altered and worn four times. Do you like how the veil started as a cape and turned into a head veil? The dress was given to the Nantucket Historial Association in 1987. (Wouldn't it be fun to see it continue being worn? It may have returned to it's original look being worn today.) Which one's your favourite?  See all the dresses after the jump!



Here's a newspaper account of the gown:
"Sconset was the scene of a pretty wedding last Saturday morning at 'The Hedges', the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Preston. Miss Preston's dress of "ivory satin and chiffon, trimmed with rose point lace" was custom-made at Bonwit Teller and the veil was brought from Italy." (link.)

it's amazing how long those veils are!! gosh, i think i would still prefer my short cocktail wedding dress... hard to raise the roof in delicate lace! Love these photos though. ^__^

I can definitely picture it being worn now, in 2011, in a way very similar to the first photo! This was lovely.
