Weekend Project: Make Someone a Picnic Kit

I love this idea as a gift.  Remember Matt and Julie of Tiger in a Jar?  (They made that beautiful Bake a Beet Cake video we posted about a few weeks back).  Recently they posted about a picnic basket they received as a wedding gift from a friend of theirs who creates the most amazing gifts.  Check it out here, such a wonderful idea and a great little weekend project to make for a special couple.

So cute! I love that the viewfinder is in there.

I've made the hard decision to part with most of my collection of picnic baskets, so they will be going into my Etsy shop, but a special one is going to be set aside outfitted for those emergency picnics.

I actually did this as a wedding gift for good friends many years ago (time flies!). I bought a nice picnic basket, a tablecloth/blanket and two nice wine glasses and sent it to their honeymoon destination so that it would be there waiting for them. They were very surprised and grateful. They sent us a picture of themselves enjoying a romantic picnic on their honeymoon. It was very sweet. I can't believe I pulled it off! (I also arranged to have it all shipped to their home so they wouldn't have to mess with shipping it themselves) :)

I just love when whimsy and usefulness collide and you get something as cheery and lovely as this gift! Thank you for posting; this is such a wonderful idea!

that's too sweet, and who doesn't like picnics?

also Lol @myamericanhouse's comment

"I just love when whimsy and usefulness collide"

what other things could be made when those two things collide, I wonder?

Feather fascinator headbands that double as wallets?

ballet flats that double as bowling shoes?

Unicorns that harvest fruit with thier horns?

I made someone a picnic kit, but i had to re-do the inside of the suitcase too. It was vintage, smelly and not in the best condition;-)
