A few more 2009 calendars are popping up here and there and we will keep posting these beauties as they come in to add to our list. From the top: Camilla Engman, The Paper Thieves and Field Notes Brand (which will be up on their site today). Below: Michelle Brusegaard and The Paper Thieves.
Last week we posted about Pilllpat’s scanned ephemera and vintage french paper crafts. While sifting through them we came across a sweet little desk calendar.
We used their template as a starting point and built our own. All you need is some paper, tape , scissors and a printer. It’s kind of fun and super easy to make! Click here to get the pdf.

Sukisuki gets picked today from the The Art of the Display pool for her idea of hanging their short run art prints, on "deka" curtain wires from IKea. Check out her interestsing site on using usability, accessibility, functionality, & aesthetics towards a more usable library, here.
Commemorating living in a structure that felt like camp (due to moving to her new house in the country), Pennsylvania's Leanne Graeff designed these awesome lino blocked camping tea towel series. And we have been pining for them ever since we laid our eyes on them. Perfect for a cottage camper and "our" kitchen each towel is hand printed on 100% linen. See more of her lino block work here.

We know Jinnie of Lilacmoon for her polaroids and Poladoodles, and she also likes to make things with rubber stamps. We came across these fun little crafts she made using stamps and asked if she’d mind sharing with our readers. You can see more at her blog, blog.lilacmoonstudio.com. Thanks Jinnie!

We love autumn, with all the fall fairs that start popping up everywhere and it seems the world arts and crafts comes alive and keeps this blog and market hopping. So this weekend locally here in the lower mainland, a few more craft happenings for your handmade shopping. First off, one of my very very favorite potters, Laura McKibbon of Cul de Sac Design, (I even know her url off by heart) is having her annual studio sale this Sunday (Sept 28th) from 10 am to 8pm, as usual her work will be priced 20-30% off (amazing deal)! It's at #240, 975 Vernon Drive, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. I hope to get down there!

Secondly, the "I Heart Crafts Bazaar" (another Vancouver favorite and must see) is on Sunday Sept 28th as well. It will take place at 11 am to 6 pm at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Strathcona, 805 East Pender St. Vancouver. Jeannette of The Beautiful Project will be there as well a host of other super talented Seamripper and Etsy crafters.
Fun pieces for the right room (I'm thinking entrance, of course) with these giant oversized wall murals from New York filmmaker and photographer, Anthony Savini. Printed on heavy duty 80lb wet strength paper in 8 panels, this photo-realistic mural is apparantly simple to install and remove. (A great idea for a small space as it would totally open it up). From Urban Outfitters.
These are the latest designs from Brooklyn designer, Donna Brady of Re-Surface Design. Close-up photographs of urban decay are printed on canvas and then turned into these stunning pendant lampshades. Shade dimensions: 18"diameter x 9" body. Available here.
A great article on how to turn flea market finds into your own treasure from Hallmark Magazine's style guru, Andy Newcom. Paint a chair, add decorative elements to an aged dresser and turn century old glass shades into votives. Click here to find out how.
Remember these, or something similar as a kid? The North American versions weren’t as quaint as this, and so that’s why we think these French ones are so worth re-visiting this very sweet craft.
This gem isn’t the only one you’ll find if you visit Pilllpat’s flickr photostream (yes there's three "L's"). If you don’t already know, she has an amazing collection of scanned ephemera to waste hours looking through. We especially love this newspaper stand. If you wish to build this one you can find the models here and here. See more here.
After thought: Or just print these out and frame!
Today's The Art of Display pick comes from the Netherlands and the home of Nina of Ninainvorm. Her gallery style wall is worth a definite mention and so are her ceramics (I posted about this past June).

This lovely pick from The Art of the Display today comes from Ciucciobaby's photostream. Beautiful greens against the taupe (I haven't seen that color for a while, but it gets updated by these bright vibrant colors). And the paper whites tell me it's time to plant some soon! And if you can check out Ciucciobaby's sweet quilts!
Love this new set of books print titled, Bookshelf 29 by Jane Mount. I posted about her book prints this past spring, which are one of my favorites. It's just been released at 20x200, meaning it's from an edition of 200 each only $20.
We're giddy over the placement of these plates (like bubbles) surrounding the frame of this darkened window in the home of potter, RJ of Bailey Doesn't Bark. It's our pick today from the The Art of the Display Pool. Upload your "beautiful or unique" wall space, and we may feature it here too! (We've also included this shelf image with all those lovely ceramics displayed of hers too - below).
Richochet Studio was initiated by Vancouver artist, Jeremy Hatch who collaborates with artists from various disciplines to realize limited edition ceramic objects.

Everyone's excited, I'm so excited, thanks to Kate we have some images she's sharing on her flickr of the new book, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, and Design by Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl. Kate drew all of the illustrations for this book last fall and early spring and now it is here! To order a book and to view the trailer and to just generally learn more about this AMAZING project go here: handmadenationmovie.com or through Amazon here. Oh and if you get a chance, check out the New Wave of Craft Timeline Kate drew which illustrates how it all went down (best viewed at the largest size). And click here to see the other pages she's sharing at her flickr.
Happy Fall everyone, and just in time for a seasonal entry with Rachel from Pony Party! What an awesome idea (found at our flickr group, The Art of the Display)! Rachel makes a note that she plans on changing out the paint by number with another seasonal painting when winter arrives. She also found a vintage wooden calendar (lucky girl) with removable months and dates so she added an eye and hook and will change those out each month too! (Maybe we'll find some of these goodies showing up at her etsy shop if we're lucky)!

A way while back I posted about the beautiful street paintings by Nuria Mora.com (above images) over at diesel.com, so long ago, I can't even find the link, and I thought I had linked it here, but too, I did not. So while visiting Abbey Hendrickson's blog, Aesthetic Outburst last week, I was reminded of the work of Nuria Mora when she posted about a film she watched recently, The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal by Matt McCormick.
Although Nuria Mora isn't removing graffiti, but applying it, we love the similarities, and we are looking at graffiti removal in a total different way now. There also is a “The Secret Art of Graffiti Removal” flickr group. Click here to see. Thanks Abbey!
Some very talented designers that are quite well known online amongst us have both recently come up with some new and beautiful textiles for us to oogle over.
Lucie Summers has opened up a new etsy shop called, Summersville selling hand screenprinted fabric for smaller craft projects and Skinny LaMinx has a few new pieces as well, including this LAVA teatowel inspired by mid-century West German ceramics.

I'm a sucker for peg boards, hence this pick today from the The Art of the Display group on flickr. This one is from Lavender and Limes (maybe the reason for the color) out of Providence, Rhode Island or check out her photostream here.
This is such a clever set from a new etsy shop I just received notice of, The Urban Thimble. Cute little doily art. A set of three embroidery hoops with appliquéd doilies.
Poppytalk reader, Alix, sent me a nice email about a short animated film she found on the french YouTube from the Paris shop Zoé de Las Cases. In this short, they present their new collage-style creations (magnets and papergoods). Zoé de Las Cases - 7, rue Vandrezanne - 75013 Paris. I got tagged by Carolyn Gavin of Ecojot (those cool Canadian "green" papergoods) and her blog Designerjots to do a "What's In My Bag" post. I took some pics of my bag and it's contents, and totally squeamed. So here's "What I Wish Was In My Bag"! And to keep this game going I'm going to tag another Canadian, Fiona of Cartolina Cards and Cartolina Cafe, "What do you wish was in your bag?" And if you get a chance check out Carolyn's latest (see one item in my bag and image below) by clicking HERE. Here's my wishful contents:
1. La besace, me and my shoes bag from Miniséri
2. Mmmg pens, Uppercase
3. La pochette, image dictee from Miniséri
4. Eclecto Pouches, Uppercase (actually this one is in my bag)
5. Ashley sunglasses, Fred Flare
6. Field Notes, Curiousity Shoppe
7. Nature Workbooks, Ecojot
Break out these fun kitchen mixer cocktail napkins at your next do. Designed by Toronto's Avril Loreti, they are heat transfered on white cotton/poly blend. Set of 8 for $52. Click here for a direct link.
Home Design Director, Suzanne Dimma of Wish Magazine had her home featured in the October '08 issue and since I've always been a fan of her sense of style, I really enjoyed seeing it. She and her architect husband, Arriz Hassam have merged their diverse tastes into a mix that really works. And although there were lots of good things to see, I loved this little vignette in her bathroom (and the corner sink). The three way mirror is the topping on the cake. (Below), a close-up of what's on the ledge that surrounds the sink. (Photo's by Rob Fiocca).
Suzanne's work can also be seen on The Style Dept on HGTV.
