i learned about chine-collé this past summer (thanks ya ya girls!); a print technique using an etching in which "an image is printed on a lightweight (japanese) paper that is bonded to a heavier (usually western) paper as it is printed. the purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a surface that has more interest and more ink-receptivity which pulls finer details off the plate".
i was instantly attracted to this multi-layered art and doubly pulled in by it's process. here, a piece i found by cybèle young, who had given a course recently on this printmaking method at the japanese paper place in toronto.
