Design Vancouver city is abuzz this weekend as IDSVancouver opens at the Vancouver Convention Centre. This year's theme is Surface and Depth, referring to how our built environment and products look — aesthetics, but also, how design impacts how we innovate, feel and interact with one another. The 2018 fair invites visitors to engage, celebrate and investigate the notion of design, featuring a collection of various exhibits and installations sure to make one's heart skip a beat. With local and international speakers featuring architect, Michael Ford and Karim Rashid to even some youth programming, this year's show has a little something for everyone.
Last night we got a sneak peek of what's in store:
The Mix: Presented in partnership with LA Design Festival and Design Milk, IDS Vancouver has paired two relevant, leading Los Angeles-based designers (Leah Ring and Bari Ziperstein) with two celebrated contemporary Vancouver designers (Riley McFerrin and Ben Barber).

What the Hel from Finland: a trend installation showcasing Finnish design, mixing visual and societal trends in a narrative, surprising, ambient and multidisciplinary way.
Open Studio: An invited group of interior designers incorporate the theme 'Retreat' in the design of their 100-sqaure foot conceptual space.
Prototype: a juried platform featuring products not currently in production addressing new ideas for the residential market.
