DIY Candlestick Cake Stands

We've pulled this project out of the vault today because lately it has become one of our more popular pins on our Pinterest account. It's so easy and can be made literally in about 5 minutes if you don't paint it, but even if you did, not very long.  Also they're super in-expensive to make, so if you needed a bunch for an event, these would be a good alternative to buying. The result, two candlestick stands, two wooden plaques, a glue gun and a little paint later, we have ourselves a couple of cake stands!

It's almost embarassing how easy this project is, but like we've said before with easy projects, in case you were wondering, here's how we made ours!

You will need:
(All supplies found at our local big box craft store)
wooden candlesticks
wooden plaques

a little sandpaper
paint or wood finish
paintbrush

How to make it:

Step 1: To start, give the wood a little sanding to soften any rough edges and wipe off with a damp cloth.  Place the candlestick in the centre of the wooden plaque.  If you aren't sure if it's centred you can measure using a ruler.

Step 2:  Glue the top of the candlestick to the bottom of the plaque.  Let stand to dry.  A minute or so.

Note:  At this point you could just leave it and protect it with a sealant.  It's beautiful just the way it is.  If you wish to paint, continue through to the next step.

Step 3:  Start to paint by beginning underneath the plaque and then painting up the pedestal of the candlestick.  Flip so that it is sitting standing up and continue to paint the top and edges.

And that's it! So fast and super easy! And under $20!

Ahh stunning results! I love how you just boldly went for colors that really pop! (And the matching icing is a huge win.) A really awesome and pretty DIY, it's so easy and perfect for parties! I might just try these someday. Thanks for the inspo <3
