Interior Design Show Vancouver Opens This Weekend!

Clay & Glaze Installation - Carnevale Clay

This weekend the Interior Design Show Vancouver opens and this year's show looks like another must-see!  There are so many exciting featured exhibits and talks happening from a curated installation of ceramicists, a culinary experience collaboration with Caesarstone and Tom Dixon, the Dutch Exchange Eindhoven curated by Design Milk and IDS Vancouver, the Social Sessions and so much more! Let's take a preview!

Clay & Glaze,
Presented by DXV Canada, Clay & Glaze is a curated installation that features contemporary work by an invited group of regional and international ceramicists. From faces (and other body parts) on canisters to crumpled vessels to architectural, hard edges, Clay & Glaze will highlight contemporary ceramics at its best. Fire Kitchen
by Tom Dixon for Caesarstone
An unforgettable architectural and culinary experience is planned for the central feature of IDS Vancouver 2016. Caesarstone has collaborated with international designer Tom Dixon to bring to Vancouver a variation of the Fire Kitchen that was unveiled at Milan Design Week. The Fire Kitchen has a characteristic basalt look with touches of gold and copper. The Caesarstone colors selected for this kitchen have a dramatic black and dark gray appearance (Vanilla Noir 5100, Raven 4120 and Coastal Grey 6003 models). Dixon has now designed for Caesarstone four conceptual kitchens inspired by the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Dixon transformed the four elements into formations in space, into color of surfaces chosen from the Caesarstone range, and into complementary furniture from collections of his own designs.

Dutch Exchange Eindhoven
For the 3rd Exchange at IDS Vancouver and Design Milk will curate a group of product designers from Eindhoven who are at the forefront of design. Previously we have highlighted designer-makers from the cities of Brooklyn and Los Angeles. Each designer will participate in a curated installation on the IDS Vancouver show floor. Dutch Exchange: Eindhoven in partnership with the Consulate General of the Netherlands and Dudoc will be designed by Vancouver-based Burgers Architecture Inc.

The Social Sessions
The Social Sessions is a partnership between Poppytalk and IDS Vancouver. Three seminars are planned for Saturday September 24th in conjunction with IDS Vancouver 2016. The day will start with a session featuring Janel Laban, Executive Director of Apartment Therapy, followed by a keynote by Justina Blakeney of the fantastically popular The Jungalow and an afternoon panel discussion on Embracing Video for Your Brand. Carefully curated by Poppytalk, all sessions have been submitted for both AIBC and IDC accreditation.

Open Studio
Open Studio invites a selected group of designers or design firms to participate in a curated installation that focuses on a singular theme. For 2016 we have partnered with Portland-based Colorhouse Paint to present the Colour Edition. Open Studio will occupy 1600 sq ft of prime exhibition space and will feature a group of designers who will all present their concept based on the singular theme of colour. With a 10′ x 10’ raw space as a blank canvas, we are welcoming invited participants to showcase their notion of the theme colour with the opportunity to create either a functional or conceptual installation within 100 square feet.

IDS Vancouver is pleased to welcome back Prototype – a showcase of the next generation of designers. The group of participants features professional designers and students who will be presenting both to-market and conceptual works. You don’t want to miss this curated selection of innovative designs by the next generation of designers.
