DIY Candy Gems

So these are fun to make.  In fact I've made three batches since the first batch.  And so easy. Can you tell we're into easy around here? Taking cue from our gingerbread house last December, we just melted crushed hard candies in some silicone gem molds over and over again.  These are fun to make wrapped up as a gift, or do like we did and decorate a cake!  A little how-to below.

DIY Candy Gems

1 to 2 bags of hard candies (like Jolly Ranchers)
1 or 2 oven proof silicone gem candy molds (like these)
1 cookie sheet

Preheat oven to 350 F. Crush hard candies (one colour at a time - starting with lightest colours first) in a blender until broken down into small pieces (see below).  Place the crushed candies into the mold until filled to the top.  Place the mold on a cookie sheet and pop in the oven for approximately 6 minutes (until liquified).  Let cool (5 - 10 minutes or so) and pop out! Then make some more! Super easy!
