A Holiday Vignette with Stepback

Stepback is one of our favourite vintage and antique shops here in Vancouver. Located in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, owners Robin and Chris make this beautifully curated and constantly updated shop a treat to visit! From wooden apple crates, vintage typewriters, taxidermy, silverware, globes, maps, old photos, penants and piles upon piles more, their shop also carries a selection of new products; like candles, posters, cards and bits and bobs that effortlessly fit into the vintage scene. Plus their displays that constantly change are so inspiring! Not to miss? Their instagram feed, where they update their shop daily! We were keen to see a few holiday decorated corners of their home!

Tell us about your pictures?
We have boxes and boxes of vintage glass balls, bells and birdies that we've collected over the years and normally pile on the tree, to the point of it being described as "dripping with ornaments"! This year, with 5 month old tree climbing kittens, Huckle and Dandy, in the house, we opted to avoid disaster and simply light the tree. (Something we've been tempted to do in the past). To add interest we used three different sizes of clear and painted white bulbs, old fashioned incandescents of course. Instead we put a few shiny balls on the elk antlers above the fireplace.

Probably our favourite Christmas find is an adorable 1940s bobble-head glittered snowman, who always finds himself on prominent display, this year amongst the globes on the mantle. To finish it off we go through our collection of antique and vintage greeting and post cards and pick favourites for a swag. Done! (In this room anyway).

What is your favourite holiday tradition?
Our oldest son was born on December 22nd, so every year we have to be well prepared for Christmas so that we can take a break to celebrate his birthday. For the sixteenth year, the whole family, ours, Grandparents, Uncle and cousins will converge at Stanley Park and ride the Bright Nights Christmas train, followed by dinner out and birthday cake at home. It's a fun get together with family and a reprieve from hectic last minute holiday chaos.

Do you have any go-to gifts this year?
We like to give consumables, a few local favourites that we also carry at our shop are:

1. Woodlot candles. They smell so good!
2. East Van Jam. More love, less sugar!
3. Frostbites syrups and cordials. 100% yummy!
