Back to School Donut Treats

Celebrate the school year ahead this week with a little after school treat that the kids will love to help make!  It's back to school time here in Canada and whether your kids love heading back to the books or wishing summer would last another month, this after school treat is a great way to kick things off. Have the donuts ready, make the ganache just after you get home (takes only a few minutes), spread it out on the table and let them add their own toppings! Yum!

Back to School Donuts Treats

For the Donuts
1 dozen cake donuts (try this recipe or use your favorite cake recipe)
1 cake donut pan

Ganache
1 cup heavy cream
8 oz. semi sweet chocolate

Toppings
Fruit Loops
Pretzels
Miniature marshmallows
Miniature Oreos

To Make:
Bake donuts per recipe.  To make the ganache.  Heat the cream on the stove top until you see the cream coming to a simmer.  Remove off burner.  Add the chocolate and cover with a lid.  Wait five minutes.  Then with a whisk, start whisking from the center until well mixed.  It will turn into a velvety ganache. Leave for ten minutes before using. Note: The longer you leave the ganache sit, the thicker it will get. Ice each donut with the ganache and top as you wish! Happy snacking!
