IKEA Introduces a New Sit/Stand Desk

IKEA introduces BEKANT, a new professional desk/table series replacing the popular GALANT series and featuring a new and innovative option - a sit/stand desk frame.

"When we designed the BEKANT series our goal was to make flexible desk combinations that encourage collaborations, meetings and creativity,” say the designers, Karl Malmvall and Eva Lilja Löwenhielm. “The desks come in different sizes and shapes – you can use one alone or combine them to suit your needs. And they’re easy to add onto, or change, any time your needs do. Also, this series has been tested and approved for professional use, so it’s perfect in all types of offices."

Like its predecessor, BEKANT provides a selection of tabletop and leg options to create a number of possible combinations. Additionally, the new and innovative option available in the BEKANT line is a sit/stand desk frame. The phrase “sitting is the new smoking” comes from a growing body of research that shows the health risks associated with sitting for prolonged periods of time. To encourage a healthy work environment, BEKANT offers underframes with a sit and stand function that allows you to vary positions.

“This desk promotes a healthy work environment by getting people on their feet!” says Karen Haas, IKEA U.S. Sales Leader for Workspaces. “With the BEKANT electric sit/stand underframe, you can adjust the height of your desk with just a touch of a button. This allows you to change your work position as often as you like, keeping your body active.”
