DIY Sunglasses Pouches Using Fabric Markers

Contributor post by Rachael Smith of Penelope and Pip

Now that Spring is peeking it's happy face through all the winter gloom, it's time to dust off those summer sunglasses and get ready for long hikes and beach adventures. If you're like me though, you probably have a few pairs of glasses that can be found in the bottom of a handbag or on the dashboard of the car that are constantly getting scratched.

You can keep all your glasses scratch-free however with these cute geometric pouches that only take a few minutes to make.

What you'll need:

1. Calico or plain fabric
2. Fabric markers
3. Scissors
4. Needle and thread (or a sewing machine)

Step 1: Places your sunglasses on the fabric and cut a rectangle out leaving at at least a 1.5 cm seam allowance the whole way around. My rectangle measured 20cm by 24cm.

Step 2: Create a cross pattern by making random crosses with you fabric pen all over your material. Make sure you go right to the edge.

Step 3: Fill in the spaces between your crosses using different colours.

Step 4: Fold over the top of your fabric twice to create a small seam. Sew the seam using a straight stitch. Make sure you start and finish on the back. Using a sewing machine will mean this step takes only a few seconds!

Step 5: Fold your fabric in half lengthways, right sides together and using a straight stitch, sew around two sides of the pouch, leaving a hole in the top where the folded seam is. Trim the corners to make the pouch neater and fold it right way out.

You could give your pouch a press with the iron to flatten the seams and then you're ready to make some more!

Using simple patterns like dots and lines, you'll be able to create a pouch for every bag and car dashboard in no time.
