DIY: Advent in a Jar

There are so many beautiful advent calendar ideas being pinned at the moment we couldn't resist adding our own little idea to the mix.

Enter the "Advent in a Jar" which also doubles as a lovely Christmas garland to hang on your tree. That's a double advent calendar whammy! Hooray!

If you're like me and a bit short of space to hang an advent calendar then this is the perfect DIY for you.

We've put activities on our little daily messages, but if you had a bigger jar, you could attach little gifts too.

Let's get started with materials:

  1. Jar (we used an old tomato paste jar)
  2. "Advent in a Jar" download (click HERE to download).
  3. Felt balls (or pom poms)
  4. Embroidery floss
  5. Needle
  6. Pen
  7. Scissors
  8. Glue

Step 1:  Print out the "Advent in a Jar" download and cut out all of the pieces.

Step 2: Write your little messages on each day.

We added activities like "go to the movies" and "visit a friend" as we wanted to get out and about at Christmas. You could even make it a treasure hunt which would be loads of fun for the kids.

Step 3: Attach your balls with a little dab of glue.

Don't add too much as you want to be able to rip off the paper tab so you can add each ball to your garland.

Step 4: Glue your circles on the lid and the side of the jar.

Step 5: Crinkle up your paper before popping the balls in the jar as this will give you more room.

Add your balls to the jar and pop the lid on ready to count down!

The fun part about this Advent calendar is every day you can add a ball to your garland.

And you'll have a gorgeous decoration for your tree by December 24th!

We hope you enjoy having some Christmas cheer in a jar.

what a lovely idea. Paperchase (shop in the UK) has some adorable felt reindeer table scatters that would also work as an alternative to the pom poms! :)
