Dispatches from Dublin: A. Rubanesque

Contributor post by Emily Westbrooks of From China Village

A. Rubanesque is one of those shops that just makes you smile when you walk in the door. It's a small shop that's packed with buttons, ribbons, trimmings and anything you could need to add an extra bit of sparkle to a sewing project.

Nestled on the first floor of the Powerscourt Shopping Centre, A. Rubanesque benefits from the original architecture of the centuries old building. The arched doorways paired with bright white walls mean A. Rubanesque is bright and cheery even on the rainiest Dublin days. Opened in 2007 by textile designer Alexa O'Byrne, the shop is the only specialist trimming shop in Ireland and offers a broad selection of unique, vintage and hard-to-find trimmings, often imported from around the world.

Whether you're looking for dainty lace, unusual buttons, or the perfect color ribbon, A. Rubanesque is a good bet. Or if you're not in the market for any of those, you can simply do what I do every so often - pick up a coffee from the cafe around the corner and browse and sip, imagining all the pretty projects I could make with such sparkly trimmings!
