Greetings,
dear friends. This weekend, I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon wandering
around the Round Top Antique Fair with my mom. I thought I'd pop in
here and share a few of my photos. Round Top, Texas is a charming little
town roughly halfway between Austin and Houston, with a population of
only 91.
For
the past 45 years or so, Round Top has hosted an enormous antique fair
every fall and spring. The fair has spread to neighboring communities
and now includes over 2,000 vendors. Sunday was the last day of the fall
fair, and my mom and I were disappointed to find that many of the
vendors (especially the furniture vendors) were already packing up and
heading out.
We
did find many booths still intact, though. I had a great time exploring
the fair, seeking out treasures among the rubble. We found such a
curious assortment of wares: an enormous collection of old roller
skates, old gas pumps, grain sacks, wooden crates, and discarded mason
jars.
Walking
from booth to booth, I love imagining the stories behind the antiques.
Who did they belong to? Were they treasured family heirlooms, or were
they cast off, unwanted, in favor of something newer and finer? I am
happy to give some of my favorites a new purpose in my own life. Next
year, my mom and I plan to return to the Round Top Antique Fair, and
this time we won't wait till the last day!

That sounds (and looks) like a wonderful weekend afternoon! So many great items like those crates.
looks amazing. seriously. how much did they want for the letters?
@julia - The letters were not marked, and I couldn't find anyone to tell me how much they were. Aren't they great? It was the last day of the fair, so many of the vendors were busy packing up to head out. A lot of the booths were not even manned. Next year, I won't wait until the last day!
