Trends + Inspiration from the 2013 IKEA Catalogue (Canadian Version)

Canada's version of the new 2013 IKEA catalogue arrived today and with it a heap of new inspiration from DIY's to colour trends –and of course if you don't yet know a fun new experience digital-wise featuring films, how-to's and behind the scene looks (like special easter eggs) just waiting to be revealed.  To access the special material you can download an app to a smartphone or tablet or see everything at IKEA.ca. (Note - if you're using a smartphone or tablet, look for the phone symbol throughout the catalogue and scan the whole page).

Above:  DIY Idea - Cut out the different fruit and leaves from the GURINE fabric to make these adorable pillows (they would also make fun decorative patches on totes and clothing). Or customize the TIDNY fabric by painting it like a colouring book.  Click "continue" to see a few more highlights we liked.

Turquoise has always been a favourite colour of mine (ahem, birthstone); so of course I was inspired by all the hues of blue/green. Has anyone picked up that trolly yet?  (I keep thinking about it).

Glam - I think I have the perfect spot for that dresser (MALM mirrored chest of drawers).  So girly and it would fit perfectly in my closet. I'm also thinking it would go so well with some of Oh Joy's Petal Pusher white/gold wallpaper from Hygge & West.

Tribal - Graphic black and whites, middle eastern inspired motifs, baskets and of course beautiful traditional persian rugs.

Swedish Country – lots of textiles - checkers, florals, toiles and scandinavian-inspired woods. Love all the combinations of different bedding in the bottom left image.

Boutique Hotel - Loving the bright neon red matched with white (the grey walls too).

Loft - The HEKTAR lamps I can see becoming one of my favourites that can sort of fit any room from the larger pendants (for the kitchen or workspace) to the clamp on ones for the bedroom. (Loving these).

Fun fact - (on the cover): The new STRANDMON wing chair (available in November) is featured on the cover this year which was inspired by the MK chair that sold in the 1950's and was on the 1951 catalogue cover.

I love the leaf pillows - what a great idea! All these beautiful decor ideas make me long for the day when I have my own home to decorate! There is only so much I can do with my shabby student accommodation!

Those mirrored drawers are definitely glam! I wouldn't have thought I would like something like that, but they look amazing!
