I've been a fan of Natalie Chanin and her story behind hiring local women and artisans to stitch her collection, a high-end fashion label. It's so inspirational. (Check out her men's ties chair in a post I wrote back in 2007). So when I heard about this video the folks at Etsy put together on her I was more than excited to take a look.
Also I can't wait to see Natalie's new book she's written, Alabama Studio Sewing + Design coming out from the folks at STC Craft this April 2012. Natalie wrote it in hopes of making her couture-quality garments accessible to all. DIYers and aspiring designers will be able to find detailed instructions for creating Alabama Chanin’s signature stitchwork, using the same patterns they provide for their seamstresses, plus information on sourcing materials. Natalie will also be offering tips for adding one's own character, voice, and vision to each project.
