Real Wedding No. 5: Suraiya + Matt

Today Suraiya + Matt of West Vancouver are sharing their west coast wedding with us, a beautiful wedding at the home of Suraiya's parents.  Fun fact: Suraiya and I have a mutual friend, the amazing Alex McIntyre whom we have both had the pleasure to have worked with in the past (small world)!  Here is Suraiya's description of their big day!  Thank you Suraiya + Matt!

When Matt and I got engaged it did not take long for us to realize we wanted to be married at my parents home in West Vancouver. The wedding took place in September over the Labour Day weekend. We had the ceremony in the front yard and the reception in the back. What was most important to us was that the wedding was fun and festive and filled with our closet friends and family.

We knew we wanted our wedding to have a handmade feel so right away we enlisted the help of our very creative friends and family. The wedding would not have happened without their support and talent.

Our invitations came from minted and we were thrilled with the results. My dress, shoes and jewelry came from J. Crew and Matt’s suit was J. Lindenberg. The groomsmen suits we from H&M and they are wore converse sneakers and striped socks. The bridesmaids we allowed to choose their own dresses as long as they stayed within the color scheme. They were able to find beautiful and (reasonably priced!) dresses at H&M, Forever 21, and Anthropologie.

Décor was the most important things to me and luckily I met three of my bridesmaids in design school! We have all worked together as display artists and stylists in the past so everything came together so easily. I wanted the wedding to have a vintage and eclectic look so most of the items were purchased at flea markets or were handmade. We chose a soft color story of pink, ivory, champagne and bronze for a romantic feel.

My mom and Matt’s aunt did all the flowers and our friend Forest flew from LA to photograph the wedding. The groomsmen helped to assemble tents and place the photo booth, my brother’s band, The Belle Game, performed at the reception and everyone pitched in to set tables, arrange seating and hang lights.

Our wedding was truly a family affair and an amazing day filled with so much fun and love.
