Linotype: The Film

Linotype: The Film is a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by Thomas Edison, it revolutionized printing and society. The film tells the surprisingly emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype and how it impacted the world. (Via OneCANOEtwo)

Okay, I'm dating myself here, but I worked in printing for years and that brings back memories of a small newspaper I worked at back in the 80's. While I didn't set type on a linotype, I worked on phototypesetting machines, which involved typeface film and light. However, we had a linotype in the back that was still used by two of the gentlemen I worked with, much like the gentlemen in this film. It was always fascinating to see them set hot type. They were the fastest typists I've ever seen in my life! So glad you shared this! I did phototypesetting for years until the advent of the desktop made it obsolete.
