Colour Lover

If it's cold and grey outside, you know its time to splash on a bit of colour. A look at the work of Giuseppe Basili (Petritoli, Italy) will liven up your wintery grey and have you longing for spring – and cake, cake with lots and lots of frosting. Any Colour Lover will agree that no two shades are alike and the unique combination of colours creates different sensations, thoughts, feelings, experiences. Walking into Giuseppe’s garage studio felt like entering a candy shop. The thick application of oil paints appearing almost like blobs of melted crayola marshmallows got me all excited and hungry.

It takes weeks to dry any one of these pieces and the vibrance or “wetness” and integrity of the colours is achieved by mixing the right kind of paint. A bit of muscle is required to lift and yet against a wall it appears almost like a living breathing thing. I had my fill of color that day and walked away full and smiling.
