Weekend Project: Headboard Swagger

House and Home (Feb/12) - Produced by Stacey Smithers | Photographed by Kim Jeffery

Have you seen the February 2012 issue of House and Home?  It's their "makeover issue" and they have a rather simple weekend decorating idea if you know a carpenter (or are handy in that department).  Check out the architectural shaped headboard (page 78) —they've drawn a design for it on kraft paper, then headed to their friendly neighborhood carpenter and cut it out onto a sheet of ¾"-thick MDF.  Cleaned up the edges with sandpaper, primed and painted it; they used Hague Blue (30) from Farrow & Ball.  The paint almost looks like it has a chalkboard effect to it, or slate-looking.  I might consider using that chalkboard paint from Annie Sloan that's been popping up in the news lately if I was going to tackle this project.  Love the mix in the image below. Deep Old Violet with touches of a deep Burgundian Red and Old White around the edges of the drawers.  From Annie Sloan's book "Creating the French Look" published in 2008 by Cico. Wouldn't that paint job be awesome on this project?   [Sidenote: Of course I think that everything in this image (above) makes it all work - especially those mid-century paintings by Gordon Runge they sort of pull away from the shabby chic look which could make this space go all wrong]. Wall colour Calluna (270) also Farrow & Ball.
