Mini Profile at Poppytalk Handmade: Augenblick Photo

Rebeccah von Schlieffen, an expat from the San Francisco Bay Area who has lived in Berlin for 12 years, is the woman behind the camera at Augenblick Photo. In her work she uses both her own photographs as well as high quality prints from vintage photographs out of her large personal collection. She is drawn to images that are both intense and intimate, those which hold a sense of mystery and have the power to draw the eye again and again. L'Inconnue de la Seine (The Unknown Woman of the Seine) has been one of her biggest inspirations. The death mask of a young woman who threw herself into the Seine river at the turn of the 20th century, the mask has also inspired works by Man Ray, Vladimir Nabokov, Rainer Maria Rilke and Anais Nin to name but a few.
