London Shop tour: Labour and Wait

A contributor post by Andrea from Lotus Events / Got Craft?

With my love for kitchen items and pretty, functional things for the home, I can truly say that Labour and Wait is one of my favourite shops in London. Situated in the heart of East London’s market district just off of Brick Lane, Labour and Wait opened in 2000 by Simon Watkins and Rachel Wythe Moran. From hardware to clothing, their philosophy is to select timeless products that celebrate functional design that will never be out of date. They seek makers from around the world that share the same aesthetic.

I’m swooning over the enamel kitchen bowls and coffee pots and the bath and body products from Couto in Portugal – just look at that packaging!

Incredible photos. That place looks lovely. I'm a sucker for stripes, those shirts are calling my name. :]

I would love a holiday in London to do nothing but walk thru these shops. The amazing treasures you'll find!

Chesire Street, where this shop is, has lots of great other shops to visit too if you're down there. Mimi has beautiful handmade leather bags, and Shelf does gorgeous knick knacks and stationery, they have an online shop now too:

I'm sure there's more down there I'm forgetting.

(I used to live about 5 minutes walk away, though it's all changed loads since then...)

Thanks Jan for posting this! Labour and Wait is one of my favourite shops in London and I am so excited to be able to share it with all of your readers!

Erin: Shelf closed their retail space earlier in the year, but yes, they do still have their online shop.
