2011 Poppytalk Handmade Paper Goods Guide (Part 1)

1Canoe2

Carrie Shryock & Beth Snyder have been friends for, like, ever. They love to draw and canoe and, of course, run their letterpresses in Carrie's family farm barn in Callaway County, Missouri.

They print all of their artwork on two big hunks of iron: a 10x15 Chandle & Price named Roy, and his big bother, a 12x18 Chandler & Price named Charlie. They also have a guillotine paper cutter named Cuttina.

From Sketchbook to printed piece, every print they create is a handmade original. Their hand drawn scenes from daily life are then transformed into plates that they press onto beautiful paper for that one-of-a-kind letterpress feel.

Bits & Pieces

Bits and Pieces is a one-girl adventure in western New York, where artist Lisa Barker also works as a freelance photographer, writer, and craft market organizer, among other things. She likes using maps and buttons in her work, and likes riding her bike, dancing, and snuggling with her cat when she's not at work.

Blackbird Letterpress

Dempsey Press Incorporated is an old-school printing and design studio—they’re quirky, but not “in-your-face” about it, like those people who use old paint buckets for baskets on their vintage bicycles.

Designs by Val

Designs by Val is a "modern, chic, sweet & fun" greeting card company based in Vancouver, BC. As a little girl, Val soon discovered something she had as much love for as chocolate: arts & crafts. This soon developed into a passion for creating paper goods. Going into a stationery shop was just as good, if not better, than going into the local bakery.

Rhonda & Elijah Wyman are the designer/makers behind Figs + Ginger. Since 2005 they've been creating elegant, simple jewelry and other wares together. You can find Figs' goods in stores, catalogs, flower shops, and paper stores all over the world! When not traveling Elijah & Rhonda live in beautiful Asheville, NC where they make things and music as much as possible.
