Hi Everyone! Janis here, from Pinecone Camp. Thought I'd share a pretty simple d.i.y. that I did for a li collection of vintage Kokeshi that I've had for years.
I had started out with wanting to display 6 kokeshi, but one had an unfortunate accident. I snapped her head off. Too hard to glue at this time ;) I decided on the sizes of boxes I wanted, and measured out the pieces on a scrap of plywood.

Since I didn't want this to be too labour intensive (my mind starts to wander at a certain point), I just used wood glue to assemble. After gluing, I snapped on some rubber bands to keep it all together while drying.
I cut the fabric to fit the bottom of the box then, using a little spray glue, attached it to a piece of card board. I wanted it to be easy to switch up back drops, if I decide to display something else....like my collection of deer. You can easily pop out the back drop this way.
That's it! I've got a few more to unpack, so I just may add to this wall.

That's beautiful, and so simple. I'd be tempted to paint the boxes, but perhaps that's going too far.

Oh my these are super cute. I have little wooden dolls I bought a few years back in Russia this would be a perfect home for them. I'm not so confident in my craft ability as it comes in spurts but I think this one I could manage! Really awesome.

How did you fix them to the wall?
You can also go to your local wine store and ask for their wine-shipping boxes. They are usually made out of beautiful wood...That cuts your DIY action in half but is useful if you are crunched for time :)
Ladybeetle, I used a stick on "hook" and used a little extra glue to make them stronger. I then added 2 little rubber stick on "dots" to the two bottom corners to make it level. Easy and it works well.

Nia, I used 1/4 inch plywood. It's what I had, and it worked perfectly!

lightbluegrey, I'm happy you like this project! As for where I get the kokeshi dolls, I've collected them for a number of years. I've found them on Ebay, vintage shops, garage sales, etc. Good luck!
My Mother has a collection of kekeshi dolls, probably 70. What a delightful way to dispay them. Thank you for showing us your beautiful collection.
