I don't know about you, but I love that watercolors are "back". For a while, it seemed as though the only watercolors out there were either painted by kindergartners or found in corporate hotel rooms. I've rounded up a few contemporary artists using this medium in a fresh, exciting way.
Dawn Tan

This spring, Dawn Tan used watercolors to document every single thing that went into her mouth for 6 straight weeks. Fascinating stuff! It appeals to the foodie, the busybody, and the artist in me. Dawn has a wonderful blog documenting her art and food adventures called Handmade Love. She also has an Etsy store by the same name where you can purchase her original watercolors paintings for only $18 each!
Amy Ross

Amy Ross's paintings seem like typical, pretty botanical renderings until you notice the birds blossoming out of flowers or legs sprouting from mushrooms. I love the juxtaposition! You can find Amy's entire portfolio on her website, and she also has a few prints for sale on the 20x200 site.
Chelsea Hertford Taylor

Chelsea Hertford Taylor creates beautiful abstractions out of this watery medium. I love the way her paintings contain such huge varieties of color -- both muted and vibrant. Find out more about Chelsea and see more images of her work on her website.

The foodie ones at the top remind me of the illustrations in Jamie Olivers magazine (which is a very good thing!)
