Very interesting posting. Even though the rooms are "fake", I love what they did to each and every one of them.

That's really interesting. I suppose I am pretty naive, because I always assumed that the pictures were taken in real rooms. SIGH.

I always thought they were pictures from perfect peoples' homes too! Ha! And that's completely ridiculous isn't it considering I used to work for a staging (real estate) company, and a high-end interior designer...

thanks for linking to my post. just wanted to let you know that a lot of spaces in mags are actually shot in real people's homes/rooms. but ocassionally for shoots highlighting trends, shopping shoots (like this one), "best of the best" etc, they'll use a studio.

using a studio allows stylists to colour the walls, use wallpaper, different floorings and really allow the decor and furniture to be the focus rather than architecture. also, if we shot in a real room all the time, it'd just be white walls and floorboards! very samey!

a good mix is best - which is what real living and most mags will do - but if you didn't realise they were sets, the goal has been achieved! too often the images from studio shoots can look empty and staged, but if it's nice to know these looked like real rooms!
