the same park we flew kites at is also our favorite place to spend time with our dogs. on a recent trip, I carved shauna’s initials into a tree nearby our usual path.
this tree is on the side of a river bank and must have fallen over a long time ago. although it doesn't grow leaves anymore, it was the perfect spot for a lasting message (or as long as the tree still stands). sometimes old traditions are the best ones.

Love this! Put a smile on my face! :D
I love the sweetness and the simplicity of the old classics!
absolutely sweet!
Sorry to say it, but I don't like this. It is grafitti in a natural setting. Now every time some one else uses that space, there is a big sign that some selfish other was there, someone who felt their use of the space was more important that yours.
Lara,
On a personal opinion, I'd much rather see something like this (a gesture of affection) than say a billboard of advertising in the city.
I like the sentiment on this because I love, love. But I wish there was something in the post about not carving into a live tree. It injures the cambium layer of the tree and can lead to disease, which is a bad omen for the professed love!
Lara & the urbanfieldguide:
stephen choose this tree because it had fallen over and no longer produces leaves (as mentioned in the post). there is however, something we love about finding trees with markings from years past... it's a brief connection with someone you'll never meet who once stood where you are. we love that feeling (but we also love graffiti).
