Light bulbs: You light up my life

bulb-illustration

Dylan and Jean here again from Ladies and Gentlemen

We know we should be replacing all of our bulbs with compact fluorescents, but we can't help but be enticed by the glorious forms of vintage incandescents…the intricate filaments, the beautifully diverse shapes, the packaging...

Our bulb love began when we came across these unique projector bulbs (complete with original packaging too…). Until we come up with some awesome way to use them (maybe a giant hanging lamp!), they're piled up in our glass bowl for simple display.

We gathered some cute everyday light bulbs with great packaging for our L&G Vintage Shop. Come see!

My grandpa gave me some packages of his old flashbulbs from the 50s/60s. I display some of them in a shadowbox type frame. The filament is so lovely to look at and the boxes are wondeful too.

This post reminds me of my trip to Seattle for Christmas. The Anthropologie there had a big string of vintage lightbulbs across their ceiling for Christmas. It was pretty great.

Also it has to be said that the makeover is fabulous.

When I was studying studio art at James Madison University in 94, we were allowed to raid a warehouse full of old stuff for a theatre production we were putting on. Along with old pole vaulting mats and other various curiosities, I found boxes and boxes full of these projector bulbs, and fell in love with them. That was 15 years ago and I didn't end up keeping them, sigh.
