rescued flea market finds
canadian living magazine (sept '07 issue) had some fresh ideas with curbside finds to create affordable home accessories. with the tin pattern painted trays (above) creating a collage on the wall which could also be used to hold magnets for holding poems, notes and photos. (or even a vintage cookie tin lid could be used like the black one with the rose in the center here). the pink one was painted after cleaning with tsp, lightly sanded and primed.
finials mounted onto an open shelf at one or both ends to create bookends. a smaller decorative one could be screwed near the back edge to support a plate or platter.
a collection of vintage door and drawer knobs mounted on the bottom of a curvy wooden backboard make strong pegs for a coat rack.

I LOVE these ideas, particularly using tin trays as wall art. Going to keep an eye out for some pretty ones next time I'm thrifting.
so smart!
i love the magnetic tin tray/cookie lid idea. i don't like poking holes in things to use bulletin boards so i'm all about magnetic surfaces.
i'm definitely going to use drawer knobs as pegs. i always see pretty ones at sale at anthropologie but couldn't think of any other way to use them.
I am a bit of a vintage junkie so I always enjoy fresh ideas using other people's cast-offs!
love the finial idea for the bookshelf! i always find great architectural salvage, and have NO idea what to do with it. this is perfect!
