brave art + dave barnes
brave art recently had a show in whistler, b.c. showcasing artists who collectively had one common thread. skate and street culture. the show included over 150 pieces from some of the world's best street and grafitti artists.
a few local artists were included in this show, and in particular dave barnes who's work really captures a unique sense of the street/skate culture. an illustrator according to his bio, "tries to use art as a translation of experience and observation that derives inspiration from environment and memory."
as a recent honours graduate of sheridan college's illustration program, "barnes' artistic approach involves transforming scrap wood, canvases and collage elements with bold observational sketches of scattered objects and daily life, and faded rockwellian imagery to form a nostalgic narrative".
