A Holiday Vignette by Ami McKay

Vancouver photographer, Janis Nicolay sent over this lovely set of photos and Christmas decor from the home of Ami McKay.  We love her pom pom garland on a rope!  See more photos below!

Tell us a bit about your photos?
Living on the West Coast of British Columbia we are surrounded by nature's inspiration. There is always a Fir tree 15 steps from your door that needs a haircut. I used some of these trimmings for multiple uses.; wreaths, table scape, and present accoutrements.
In my line of work we are always using gorgeous wallpapers that are too beautiful to toss away the left overs. I love using the textured papers and twine and wrapping them haphazardly, and love even more the look on the recipients face when they receive these pretty little packages.
We have a gaggle of children (4). I tossed multiple shades of gray chunky yarn balls in a pile on the living room floor, the kids worked together to make the pompoms for our tree as we sat around one evening in front of the fireplace.

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Hunting down our Christmas tree in the wild. We walk down the train tracks until the kids spot the perfect spindly tree regardless of how dodgy the location, after much negotiation we cut her down and the kids carry it home together.

Tell us three go-to gifts that you'll be giving this year
I love handmade local gifts. Here are my favorites from Make It Vancouver:
