I love this idea, too! Sometimes you've got to really wonder who designs closet doors so they totally interfere with the main house door (our set-up completely). This would really solve all of my irritations! I especially love your idea for shoe baskets under the bench. Mine currently reside in plastic garbage bags. Not cute.
